Keep the First Drawing

A generator had warned that it was about to replace files it had already altered, but kept only their fingerprints β€” enough to recognize a lost version, never enough to draw it again. The repair preserved the actual contents before generation, and made previews observational, so a rehearsal stops pretending to be the performance. It cannot recover what went missing earlier; it can keep what is here now. The rendering answers with a rooftop in open sun: a drawing and its saved copy side by side, neither one brighter than the other.
